Specific rules may also be adopted at local level in unitary states: in Hungary for instance, the law simply lays down the basic framework; the details are dealt with in municipal regulations. Local, provincial or regional authorities in Croatia, Estonia, the Netherlands and “the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” have also adopted provisions on referendums.
