(1) The Speaker of the Folketing shall notify the Prime Minister and the Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior about a referendum to be held on a parliamentary bill or a bill having received the Royal Assent.
(2) The Prime Minister shall promulgate the bill or the act in the Official Gazette stating the day of the referendum. A referendum according to sections 20(2) and 42(1) and (7) of the Act of the Constitution shall be held no sooner than 12 and not later than 18 weekdays after its announcement. A referendum according to section 88 of the Act of the Constitution shall be held within six months after the Folketing’s final passage of the Bill.
(3) If a referendum is held under a special act, the Prime Minister shall announce the theme of the referendum in the Danish Official Gazette stating the date of the referendum.
(4) A referendum takes place in the same polling districts as do general elections.
